Philanthropy for Green Ideas 2016 - Regional Competition
Serbia, July 2016 - For the first time, the 5th annual regional competition of the Philanthropy for Green Ideas (PGI) was organized by Balkan Green Foundation. This year, PGI took place in Vrdnik, Serbia, where it gathered 15 participants from Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia, who presented innovative green projects/ideas.
Philanthropy for Green Ideas is a project supported by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, which aims to stimulate and encourage innovation for green business ideas at the local level. Further, it explores the role of philanthropy in engaging local communities to generate green business ideas that utilize local resources and revitalize disappearing traditional production chains and community-based markets.
Each year, three winners, selected by an independent, international jury, receive funds of up to $10,000 to implement projects. This year, winners were: Blerta Guxha (Albania), Marta Mojsova (Macedonia), and Dragojle Bozic (Serbia).
By supporting innovative, local sustainable economic development initiatives, Philanthropy for Green Ideas aims to substantively contribute to building a peaceful, competitive, and prosperous Western Balkans region.
