BGF and Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung led discussions on Sustainable Development in Kosovo from a Local Perspective

Balkan Green Foundation and Heinrich Boll Foundation during the period of May – September 2018 organized public dialogues in some of the municipalities in Kosovo to discuss the developments within the environment, energy and economic sectors. The public debates were organized in 7 major cities around Kosovo – Prishtina, Prizren, Ferizaj, Peje, Gjakova, Gjilan and Mitrovica, as well as in Gracanica and Shterpca.

The aim of the debates was to broadly understand what the public would like to see the Kosovo Government focus on, but also use this dialogue as a platform to communicate widely and raise awareness for issues pertaining to respective municipalities. Furthermore, the debates – attended by citizens, citizens, activists, experts, representatives of national and municipal assembly and representatives of the private sector – assisted on notifying decision makers with the community needs and thus, encouraging policies towards sustainable development.

Additionally, the debates encouraged the exchange of ideas and expertise in the aforementioned sectors, by examining and raising awareness on the pressing issues – hence, urging public discussions on processes and solutions towards an overall well-being of the country and its citizens.
